Review of the Proti Snax Toast Parisien

The promise of a piece of French bread when you are on a low carb diet is what drew me to the Proti Snax Toast Parisien.  I like to make soup out of my veggies (try the Golden Goddess Soup, it's amazing!), so was looking forward to French toast to dip into the soup.

The package comes with 7 small pieces of toast, so a fairly generous portion.  I tried the first bite of the toast without dipping it into the soup  It is definitely crunchy!  A bit of a chalky taste, but not bad.  I tried dipping into the soup, and the toast was almost instantly soggy, which wasn't unexpected.  But again, the chalky taste kept coming through.  I think this is because the toast is quite dry.  A bit of butter, peanut butter, or jam would have been great with it!  I might have to buy some Walden Farms jam to try that out!

Review of Quest Protein Chips - BBQ Flavor

Today was the day I was waiting for: received my order from Quest Nutrition.  Sadly, I had already had my daily restricted product, so the Quest bars will have to wait until tomorrow.

Luckily, I ordered the Protein Chips, which are unrestricted.  I tried the BBQ flavour, since I love BBQ chips.  I was not disappointed!  This was a large bag, which was fantastic.  The chips were really crunchy and airy, and definitely satisfied the need for crunch.  The BBQ flavour was light, but I wanted more of the flavour.  The chips were salty, which was good.  The part that I loved was that there was no protein aftertaste, and the chips didn't get mushy when I started chewing, the crunch remained.  Again, just wished the BBQ flavour was stronger.  However, I can't wait to try the other flavours.

Review of the Proti-Thin Fruit Drink - Berry Blast

On a hot weekend night, I want a cool drink while sitting on the deck.  I shake the Berry Blast drink in my shaker, add ice cubes to my glass, pour the Berry Blast drink over the ice cubes, throw in a straw, and voila!  The perfect drink.

The Berry Blast drink is so refreshing.  I love that it tastes a bit like lemonade, but is still nice and fruity.  I have to remember to shake it hard and for a long time, otherwise I am left with some non-dissolved powder.

Review of the Proti-Thin Protein Wafer Squares - Mocha

My special treat from my shipment from Nashua Nutrition was the Mocha Wafer Squares.

The mocha wafers satisfy so many cravings: sweet, chocolate, crunchy, cookie.  They are light and crispy, taste great from the first bite to the last, and don't leave an unpleasant aftertaste.  I did get some pieces stuck in my molars, which wasn't the best.  What I do love, is that you get two generous wafers.  This means that I can eat one piece for an afternoon snack, and then another piece for an evening snack.  Twice the pleasure!  I only which the wafers were restricted or unrestricted, so that I could enjoy them more often.

Review of Proti-Thin Anytime Drink - Chocolate

I received my first order from nashua nutrition and was very excited to try out the chocolate shake ready-to-drink (RTD).

The chocolate shake is fabulous!  I love the convenience of the ready-to-drink.  I am able to bring it with me wherever I go, drink it on my way to work, no mixing, no water required.

I love chocolate and the taste is great.  It doesn't taste chalky or have that strange protein after-taste that certain protein shakes seem to have.  I've had it cold and warm, and while I prefer it cold, it is great either way.

Ideal Protein Alternative Products

It's time to switch it up!  I've decided to try Ideal Protein alternative products, both for savings, convenience and variety.  I am still following the Ideal Protein Phase I protocol, but replacing the purchased products with some alternative.

The first step was to determine which products to use!  It's not easy, but definitely worth it.  If you're considering alternative products, let me guide you with what I've found out.  I will post reviews of these new products!

From a few different sources, this is what I've decided to use as guidelines for alternatives:

I've printed this chart and have it in my wallet at all times!  I've mostly been ordering online, but I've found some products at local grocery and drugstores too.

A few tips:
  • Net carbs are calculated using total carbs minus fiber and sugar alcohols
  • Restricted is allowed once per day
  • Super restricted is allowed once per week
  • Multiply fat calories by 3 to see if you are under 30%
  • There are 9 calories in a gram of fat (if the fat calories are not indicated)
